I have always been a big fan of the Star Trek Series. I like the idea of Traveling to unknown places meeting new people. Having great adventures and hooking up with lots of Chicks! Sounds like a familiar lifestyle huh? I remember reading one of the Star Trek novels years ago. Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise were sent to see if they could end a war that had been going on for hundred years between two planets. Star fleet told Kirk and Crew, if these two planets did not stop fighting, within ten years both planets would destroy themselves. This is kind of how I remember the story. As the Enterprise crew studied the two planets it seemed they had nothing in common at all. The races looked nothing alike, their religions were far apart, and their economy and Government structure were completely different. The Crew searched and searched but it seemed they could find no common ground between the two planets in all their files. When Kirk reached the planets, he held a meeting onboard the Enterprise. Delegates from both worlds attended the meeting. After only a few minutes, the Delegate’s from the two planets where arguing fiercely and Kirk had to call an end the meeting. While the Enterprises Crew kept looking for something in common between these two Worlds, Kirk set up two private meetings with the leaders of the two planets. While having dinner with the first planets leader, Kirk found him to be very smart and personable. He enjoyed his company. He then set up a meeting for Lunch with the Leaders of the Second Planet. Again He found this race to be very intelligent and easy to get along with. Kirk could not understand how these two different planets, which were both so smart and friendly, could not get along. There had to be a way to get them to just start talking to each other. Kirk set up another meeting for the next day between these two worlds to try once more to try to get them to talk with each other. Kirk spent all night pacing and thinking. “There has to be something they have in common”, he thought. As the meeting was only a few hours away, Kirk sat down to rest. As Kirk was relaxing he thought, “I haven’t eaten in hours I’m starved”. He started thinking of the meals he had with the two alien races. He had enjoyed both meals. The main dishes had both reminded him of corn and having grown up in Iowa, corn was something Kirk knew. Corn? Wait Kirk thought, calling one of his Ensigns and telling him to get him the Menus from both meals. After reviewing the meals and the ingredients, he soon realized that the same corn like plant grew on both planets. With only a short time left, Kirk ordered dishes made from both planets that included the plant. When the Leaders and delegates from both worlds arrived, they were told please no talking, they would all eat first. Both groups enjoyed the meal. When the leader of one of the planets asked Kirk about one of the dishes made from the corn like plant, Kirk told him he would have to ask the Leader of the second planet as it was one of their dishes. As one of the leaders of the Second planet explained how it was made, other members of the groups started talking about how they grew the plants and recipes that had been handed down in their families over the years. This was the common ground Kirk had been looking for. Within a few hours, the planets had agreed to a cease fire and by the end of the week the planets had stopped fighting and declared peace. It took many years for some to get over their hatred of each other and things did not go completely smooth. Within 5 years the planets had started trading with each other and both worlds grew Stronger. 20 years after the truce both planets where invaded by a far off race, but because both planets had put aside their differences and collaborated in many different areas, including defense, they were able to fight off the invaders. If Captain Kirk were a Biker and a member of a group like NCOMC and he was sitting down with the leaders of all the Major Motorcycle Clubs in the world, how long would it take him to find a common ground between the groups? I wonder if he could get them to talk and realize it was in their best interest to get along, to work together. Motorcycle Clubs already have an invading force looking to take them down. Will the groups keep fighting each other, making themselves weaker as this force works to end them all forever or will a Captain Kirk arise to Unite them? I want to address a question I have gotten a lot recently. (I am sure it has a lot to do with the hit show Sons of Anarchy) It is from people who want to start new Motorcycle Clubs. They want to know if they should go to the predominate MCs in their area to talk about starting a new MC first. Many have said to me they do not understand the reason why they should go talk to them! Some have even gone as far as to say that if they have to go to the predominate MC in their area and ask permission that just proves that MC is a Criminal Gang! Not sure how they came to that conclusion but they are some very strong words sent over the computer. I want everyone to remember I am writing this info as a guideline to those who are looking to get into the MC world and individual results may vary. This maybe some new fad to you but to true Motorcycle Club Members this world is everything! For my answer to this Question I am going to put aside any statements of having to ask permission of the MCs in your area first. I am going to instead ask why would you not speak to the MCs in your area and get their Blessing first before starting a new Motorcycle Club. Many say it’s because they are going to start a different type of Motorcycle Club. They may even be calling themselves something different like a Riding Club or a Motorcycle Association. Are your Members going to ride Motorcycles and have patches on their vests? If the answer is yes, Then again why not go speak to those who have come before you and paved the roads you now wish to ride down! For many I know the reason they don’t want to ask is simple fear! Fear of what they do not know or what they think they do know. If it is fear, then it is because you do not know the real Motorcycle Club world! Now every Motorcycle Club in the world is different. But most Motorcycle Clubs don’t mind helping to get a new MC started and teach them what it really means to be in a Motorcycle Club, I can guarantee you it is something you will not learn on TV no matter how many episodes you may watch! Now if you have decided that what you really want is to start up a new Motorcycle Club, One thing I want to make sure you know is something every Father should have taught his Son as a Child and that is “Do not lie and Always do what you say you are going to do” One fact I will also give you is the MC world is all about Respect! If you just start up a new MC without talking to the other clubs in your area that will most likely be seen as disrespectful! Let’s think about some other reasons you would want to talk to the MCs in your area first. You are going to want to make sure your new Patch or MC name is not similar to another Motorcycle Club. Many MCs have worked hard over the years to create a name and image for themselves. They will not like the idea of you either using a name close to theirs or wearing a patch that looks like theirs. The reason being is a simple one, They do not want you being mistaken for them doing anything that would make them look bad. You also could be seen as trying to ride on their coat tails by using the reputation they have worked hard for. You may not understand it now but the MC world is a Brotherhood and if you are fortunate enough to be welcomed into it, You will understand after years of working hard creating a name for your MC. The bottom line is meeting with the MCs in your area and talking with them before starting a new MC is the right thing to do! Another fear many have is they wrongly believe they will be forced to do things for these other MC’s. The only thing most Clubs may ask of you is to come to a few of their events each year have fun and again to show Respect!!! Now I have heard complaints from many that there are areas where the MCs have decided they do not want any more new MCs! Well all I can do is guess why that might be! The reason I would think that Motorcycle Clubs would say no more Clubs in an area is that there are already a lot of different MCs in that area and they all get along real well. These MCs would not want anything new coming in and messing up the harmony they have created. Now like I said before the reason most say they want to start a new MC is because they want to start something different then what is in that area. Well often that is not the truth. The real reason People usually want to start a new MC is because they do not want to have to Prospect! If the only reason you want to start a new MC is because you are not willing to prospect, My best advice to you is to stay an independent rider because you will not last long in the Motorcycle Club world anyway! In the Heart of the New York Catskill Mountains, there is a place called Nicks Waterfall House. I have been there many times and it has become one of my favorite places of all time to ride to. There are times when the stress of our lives and jobs can get even the best of us a little down. If you are a straight lace citizen you go to a Doctor and get some pills or maybe see a shrink. If you are a Biker you hop on your Motorcycle get the motor running and you head out to a place like Nicks Waterfall House. It does not matter where you are or what direction you come from. The ride threw the NY Catskill Mountains is going to relax the stress away from the depths of your very soul. As you ride to Nick’s threw long winding roads up over and into the heart of some of the worlds most majestic Mountains, with the Sun shining down on you and the fresh Mountain air filling your lungs you will start to get a feeling of what one can only describe as pure joy. As you get near Nicks Waterfall House located on Route 990v, Gilboa New York 12076, either alone or with a group of friends. You will feel as if time and space are no longer a factor in the Universe, and it only gets better from there! As you ride in the first thing many think is they have reached some old time lost resort, but have no fear Nicks is a Biker bar. When you walk threw the front door you will no longer have any doubts you have arrived at the right place. If Nick is not there to great you himself, there is a good chance he is in his large kitchen cooking up some classic Biker grub. I recommend the first thing you do is order an Ice Cold Beer and go sit by the large windows over looking a Waterfall that looks as if it was stolen from the year–92. If there is any stress or negative emotions left in your body after the ride to the Waterfall House after only a few minutes watching the water fall down and roll over the rocks it will soon have all washed down stream. Then it is time to meet the locals, grab another Beer and maybe some of that great food (My favorite is the Waterfall House Cheeseburgers) or maybe shoot a game of pool. The crowd at Nicks is a mix of friendly Bikers, locals and good ole boys. This is a place to exchange stories and Adventures from the road. Often the sharing of stories can go on for hours. It is easy to have what some may call too much fun at Nicks Waterfall House but with rooms up stairs starting at only $25 a night, there is no reason to worry! Now I want to make sure that you know when I tell you there are rooms at Nicks you understand these rooms where created for road weary bikers. If you bring your old lady with you make sure she is a real biker Chick because Nicks is no Yuppie bed and breakfast! It is a real bikers, biker bar and what you get when you rent a room from Nicks is a communal living room a bed to sleep in and a shower to wash off the road dust! One other thing you get from a night at Nicks is a renewed Spirit of Adventure and a willingness to face what ever maybe up around the next bend in your life! I have many local Bars that I think of as home and I love to go to and cut loose, but when I hear that call of the road it is often telling me it is time to go to Nick’s Waterfall House!!! American Motorcycle Jamboree Every Memorial day weekend Me and a bunch of my Bro’s hop on our Motorcycles and pack into Trucks filled with Tents,Sleeping bags,Bar-B-Qs,Beer and many other camping necessity as we head up to the beautiful 100 year old Sunshine Fairgrounds in the scenic Schoharie Valley in Cobleskill NY for the annual American Motorcycle Jamboree, Rally and camp out. For 25 years now Am-Jam has taken place on Memorial day weekend. In my a opinion it is a weekend that should be spent with Family and for me its the ever growing Am-Jam family. The Am-Jam Family is the name given to the group of volunteer’s who every year do all the behind the scenes work that make Am-Jam the Three day biker Paradise it has become over the years. As with any family there is that one special someone in charge and for the Am-Jam Family that person is Jeannie Aldos, Some might even call her the Mother of Am-Jam and she has filled the roll perfectly for the past 25 years. In today’s Motorcycle crazed culture where you can’t turn on the TV or go into a store with out being bombarded with something that has to do with Motorcycles and it seems everyone is putting on a “Biker Event” signs with the words “No Club Colors” are seen more and more often.But not at Am-Jam !!! Over in the barn area where one would usually see farmers showing off prize Cows,Pigs and other farm animals,You will instead find it filled with proud Bikers showing off their antique Motorcycles. The tents and booths on the Midway where one would usually see home made goods, arts and Crafts and some guy trying to get you to spend $5 to win a 10 cent Gold Fish or stuffed animal are instead filled with Custom Motorcycle dealers,Leather goods,Tattoo artists,Clubs selling support gear,Body Piercing,T-Shirts,Patches and Pins,Lady’s Lingerie shops, and every other thing a Biker could need or want. Over by the Grand Stand and main stage area during the day you find Tattoo contests,a Motorcycle Rodeo with games for those both on and off their Motorcycles and even thou I didn’t see one this year I’m sure there was a wedding or two. On the Main Stage at Night you have some of the best Rock and Southern Rock Bands in the Northeast playing and in between sets are the leather an lace Fashion Shows by USA Leather along with contests like the best Lady’s Legs and every ones Favorite The Wet T-Shirt Contest. On Saturday Night at 10pm every year there is a large fire Works display dedicated to all lost veterans and it can be seen for miles around the fairgrounds! For Those who Forgot or didn’t have room on their Bike for Food and Beer there is always plenty of great food vendors including my morning favorite the all you can eat Pancake Hut where you get Orange juice,sausage links and all the pancakes one can eat (Of Course after being up all night drinking you can only eat so many) for only $5. Then of course there is the ever popular Beer Tent! The past few years it has been run by the Owner and Staff of the Bad Pig Saloon. For those who came alone there is the ever popular Girl’s Girl’s Girl’s Tent with some of the Hottest Girl’s Dancing just for you. Am-Jam seems to be getting Bigger and Better every year, with new and exciting vendors and events every year .The only bad thing I could say about Am-Jam is it just isn’t long enough (I’m Sure members of the Family staff might disagree as it probably seems much longer to them) After spending three days Camping and partying and having a great time with Bikers from all over, the only thought running threw my head as I watched the Thousands of bikers pack up their gear and head home was how great of a world would it be if Am-Jam was 365 days a year? But until that happens I have my memories of previous Am-Jam to hold me over to the next ! What Surprises await us at Next Years Am-Jam? If you want to know then you will just have to go.
