Authentic pearl shop in Beijing

Close to the Temple of Heaven lies a well-known pearl market. Every day it attracts many visitors from home and abroad. Recently I visited it on my way back to the Beijing GuoHong Hotel and was impressed with the Fanghua Pearl and Jewel store. If you want to find a beautiful pearl necklace, don’t miss this shop.

This well-decorated shop is on the 4th floor of the market. You will find numerous pearl necklaces neatly displayed in the shop. The colors included milk white, golden yellow, pink, and black.

A shop assistant Ms. Carrie greeted me. She told me her company is the No.1 retailer of high quality pearls. Pearls here are organized into three categories: fresh water pearls, sea water pearls, and South Sea pearls.

Many people fear buying fake pearls. But Ms. Carries explained to me how to distinguish real pearls from fake ones. There’s a rule for distinguishing fine pearls: the rounder and shinier, the better.

Photos on the wall showed foreign dignitaries visiting the shop. I saw Margaret Thatcher, Putin’s wife, the Queen of Spain, and the Queen of Belgium. The photos are proof of the charm of the Oriental pearls.

An antique shop worth your visit

Last week I visited Chengtian Antique City, which is very close to the Guangxi Hotel Beijing. I found a shop that carried Chinese antiques, jade jewelry, and other kinds of art. They were great decorations.

The shop owner Mr. Tang collected many antique porcelain wares, including vases, bowls, and plates. Some of them were antiques made in the Qing dynasty.

Mr. Tang showed me a porcelain statue, Empress Dowager Cixi (1835 - 1908), a female ruler of the Qing dynasty. She sat on a stone bench with a big dog. She was wearing a big black hat and a button-down robe of yellow, red, and blue. Peonies and butterflies were embroidered on the robe. In China, the peony represents wealth and status.

Their jade items are also very popular, including the pendants and bracelets. They were white and looked glossy. Such items symbolize virtue in Chinese.

Besides jade and porcelain, there are also some Chinese paintings, calligraphy work, and wood carvings in the shop. They are all traditional Chinese art forms. So be sure to come here while staying at your hotel in Beijing.

Tips For Buying Jewelry

The gift of a piece of jewelry has long been regarded as a valuable and welcome present for many, many reasons - it is long lasting, it retains and even increase in value if it is of high quality to begin with and it can be handed down from one generation to another without complicated formalities. It is the appropriate gift on so many occasions and gifts for both women and men can readily be found. So lets take a look at what you need to know when choosing this popular gift:

1. When To Buy: So many of the formal gift-giving times can be made even more memorable with a jewelry gift. One major occasion is a marriage proposal, generally accompanied by the exchange of engagement rings and followed up by gold, diamond or other variants at the time of the wedding itself. A gold or silver necklace can mark a wedding anniversary. Earrings, brooches or necklaces are suitable birthday presents for ladies or teenage girls. And jewelry of all kinds makes a very welcome Christmas present.

2. Where To Buy: Traditional outlets are the jewelry retailers that are well-established in Malls or in the Main Street of every city. Reputable jewelers provide a broad choice of products along with information that enables the buyer to judge quality and suitability.

With the development of the Internet, jewelry buying is no longer confined to Mall and Main Street stores. The increase in the number of jewelry outlets online means that the buyer can compare the prices and quality of a number of stores without having to physically visit them. And quite often online retailers can offer lower prices because they do not have the high running costs of traditional stores.

So whatever your favored purchase ” a gold ring, a pearl necklace, a sliver charm bracelet, stylish earrings to match a designer outfit ” you can compare and contrast the products on display until you find that extra special gift that matches your loved ones great desire.

3. Jewelry For Her: From a male perspective, buying a piece of jewelry for a woman can be very tricky. Women generally like far more variety than men and enjoy matching different types and colors of jewelry to different outfits. For example, a complementary-colored necklace might be essential to highlight an expensive evening gown. But she may insist on a gold necklace and matching earrings to emphasize a silky shirt. Yet more variations of diamonds, pearls, brooches, earrings and watches may be required for other items in her wardrobe.

To help the male shopper to choose the right gift he needs to take into consideration his loved one’s likes and dislikes for diamond, gold or silver jewelry as well as her preferred style and color of clothes.

4. Jewelry For Him: For a lady looking for gift ideas for a man, the first essential is to be sure that he does actually wear jewelry before taking the plunge. Some men are self-conscious about wearing anything that could be considered too feminine ” a wristwatch might be fine and a wedding ring could be perfectly ok, but a gold necklace or more elaborate rings could be completely unacceptable. Some men now find earrings acceptable but many shudder at the thought!

In some respects, therefore, the message when buying for a man is the same as when buying for a woman ” know his tastes and preferences, check out what he wears and how open to new ideas he is, and make your decisions accordingly.

5. Teenagers are another difficult group to buy jewelry for. Although they may profess to be an individual with a mind of their own who doesn’t follow the “herd”, teenage insecurities, fashion and peer pressure all play a role in their lives.

So take note of their dress style and the accessories they display and try to learn something about the latest teenage fashions before coming to a conclusion. For example, if silver jewelry is now considered last years outdated fashion and only for out-of-touch old people, it could be an embarrassing mistake to opt for that. Also, give some thought to where the recipient could wear your gift ” for example, a teen may have very little opportunity to display an expensive wristwatch or a gold necklace without risk or censure in school or other public places.

Whether the gift is for a friend, family member or the love of your life it is worth giving it some careful thought before heading off to the Mall or going online to buy that special gift. Jewelry makes a wonderful present for any occasion so it is little wonder that it is so popular.
