How To Roast Turkey For Thanksgiving

Roast turkey provides your family with a healthy alternative to other meats because it contains less calories, fat, and cholesterol than beef and pork. The only fat in the bird is confined to dark meat and the skin making it a good choice for those that are on a diet that limits fat. The meat of the bird is much more digestible that other meats and will provide your body with vitamins and minerals it needs to stay strong and healthy.

Roast bird does take a long time to cook but the process is relatively easy. A small turkey of about 12 lbs will need to cook for around threehours if it is not stuffed and a large turkey of about 20 pounds will stay in the oven around 5 hours. The prep time takes hardly any time at all.

Grocery stores carry bird all year found so finding what you need for your feast shouldn’t be a problem. Turkeys come frozen and some department stores carry fresh bird parts in the refrigerated section. Fresh turkey can be cooked right away but frozen turkeys need to be thawed for a period of time in the refrigerator and that can take several days. Small birds can thaw in about four days and a large turkey can be in the refrigerator five to six days before ready to cook. Make sure to put your turkey in a pan to thaw because the packaging will drip and you don’t want a mess to clean in the refrigerator.

The first step to prepping your turkey to cook is to remove the packaging. You will find some clips that hold the legs together and those need to be taken off. Once the legs are apart you will see the cavity of the bird and there is usually a small package inside that contains the giblets (internal organs or heart, liver and kidneys) and the neck. Traditionalists chop the organs up and cook them in butter to be placed in the stuffing and the neck is usually boiled in water with onions and celery to make bird stock for the gravy. You don’t have to use them however and if you desire you can cook them and give them to your dog or cat. Never give it to them raw and never give them the neck.

Wash the bird by running water over and inside of the bird until the water runs clear. Use only water and never use soap. You may want to pat the bird dry with paper towels and then put it in a roasting pan breast side up.

Many people like to stuff the cavity of the bird with bread stuffing and this must be done right before it goes into the oven. If you do it any sooner you run the risk of food poisoning. If you do not stuff it, the cavity should be filled with peeled and quartered onions (1 for a small bird and 2 for large) and several celery sticks in order to give the bird some flavor. You can also add garlic if you choose then place two to three tablespoons of butter inside as well. Melt a stick of butter and brush it over the top of the turkey than flavor with salt, pepper, and some sage. You can also add some rosemary and thyme if you like. Place 1 to 2 cups of water in the bottom of the pan depending on the size of the bird and place the bird in a preheated 450 degree F oven for a half an hour uncovered. Reduce the heat to 350 degrees F and cook for the remaining time.

You must use a meat thermometer to get the internal temperature of a turkey. There are those that give an instant reading and only have to be inserted in the turkey to check it then removed when it goes in the oven, and those that go in the bird while it cooks. Insert the thermometer in the meaty part of the thigh to get a good reading. A twelve pound turkey will need to be in the oven about threehours, 12 to– lbs bird three and three fourths hours, a 15 to’ lb bird around four and one fourth hours, a’ or 20 lb bird about four and one half hours and a 21 to 25 pound turkey about five hours. Internal temperature should be’0 degrees F when it is done. If the bird seems to be getting a little too brown too fast cover it with foil. Once the internal temperature reaches 150 to 160 degrees F start basting the top of the turkey with pan juices every 20 minutes until done.

Place the finished product on a platter and do not carve until 10 minutes have elapsed. You can bring it to your feast table to impress your guests and carve it there. Make sure to try and have some leftovers because turkey sandwiches the next day are delicious.

With Thanksgiving approaching, it is time to think about the best roast turkey recipe and I prefer a traditional recipe, with traditional presentation, which includes a classic turkey gravy made the old fashioned way.

Alas, you have had the Swine Flu for a week but you feel a bit better finally. These offers only appear once a year and there is no one else in your family who can possibly go to the shops your place.

Now imagine that you’re the one who is healthy. In the same situation, would you position a loved one in the scenario of possibly getting sick with the swine flu in order to get some discounts during the Black Friday sales?

We all know the discounts appear only once a year, while there are sure to be some huge prices both before and after thanksgiving this year when retail stores do all they can to earn as much profit as they possibly can out of the conventional shopping holiday. But are these reductions really good enough to risk contracting what could turn out to be a deadly illness for thousands of Americans?

Just like any sickness some parts of the population are more at higher risk than others, if you have a young family or perhaps you look after old parents, then your shopping adventure could be placing their lives at risk. If you are reading this and just think you will wear a mask, well they have only proved to be effective for around half an hour. So unless you are going to shop with Super Woman you are of course to be out shopping for a lot more time than 30 minutes.

Though the number of deaths and cases of Swine flu have seemed to be plummeting recently in some areas it is in no way an indication that the problems are over. The more often you are exposed to people the higher the risk of you contracting some sort of illnes it is a statistical fact.

Stop worrying everything is not lost! You off course have access to a laptop (or you couldn’t be reading this) so why not join in the cyber shopping craze that is increasing every year?

This years nintendo wii deals sales are probably to be a little different from other years. The normal day after thanksgiving sales include large items, this years sales will include many more less costly items.

Make Your Front Yard Visible From Outer Space With These Amazing Christmas Yard Decorations.

Monday, November 16th, 2009
Scentsy | Flameless Candles | Wickless Candles

Are you ready for Christmas this year? I know I am…And after a year like 2009, I’m looking forward to this Christmas even more. And my favorite part of the holiday season is seeing the colorful Christmas yard decorations set up in front of every house in the neighborhood.

When I was growing up, my dad would start to unpack our Christmas yard decorations on Saturday morning after Thanksgiving. This schedule still seems pretty normal to me, but my neighbors seem to be getting their displays up earlier and earlier every year. I resisted this trend at first, but have since knuckled under to the new reality: On my block, Xmas decorations go up on the first Saturday after Halloween.

If you haven’t been shopping for Christms yard decorations in a few years, you may be surprised at the amazing number of choices and options available. This year you’ll find an almost endless varienty of decorations to install in your front yard: LED lighting, solar powered Christmas trees, holographic images, 8- foot tall inflatable Santas, and even net lighting designed to wrap around tree trunks!

However, I recommend that you take a moment to carefully plan your new holiday display before purchasing any new Chistmas yard decorations. This will ensure that your new display will not turn your jolly wife into the Grinch…Instead, you will be the hero this holiday as your friends and family admire your new and improved Holiday display.

Here is a the first question that you need to answer: do you have access to electricity in your front yard? If yes, terrific! You’re in business! But if you don’t, you actually have a few options available to you:

1. There are actually many kinds of Chistmas yard decorations that do not require any electricity at all, like a nativity scene, outdoor tree ornaments, garlands and bows. Setting these up under a streetlight will illuminate them at night without any lighting of your own.

2. New technology like solar Christmas lighting is a great way to light up trees and bushes that are beyond the reach of long extension cords.

3. You can always use the tried-and-true method of running a hundred feet of extension cord out to any remote location that you would like to decorate (make sure to use a heavy duty cord for this…at least 12 guage wire).

If you prefer a conservative Christmas display, start with something like a traditional wreath and bow on the front door. Net lighting will make the bushes and small trees in front of your house really “pop”. You can’t go wrong with icicle lights either, but take care if you must use a ladder to install these.

Are you ready to do something completely different this year? Don’t know where to start? It’s always easiest to begin by picking a theme and working around that…Here are some ideas for you to get you started: Santa’s village, reindeer, snowmen, toy soldiers, Peanuts characters, candy canes, gingerbread cookies, etc…You can even brainstorm with your kids and have some fun with it!

Once you have a theme, it’s time to pick out the decorations: White lights? Colored lights? Do you prefer a contemporary display, or will you keep it traditional this year? And there’s one more thing to consider…your spouse may like to have some input as well on what the front lawn looks like during the holidays for the next ten years.

I recommend that if you are purchasing your new Christmas yard decorations online, please be careful in your choice of vendors. The fact is that it’s difficult, if not impossible, to know what quality standards your new Christmas yard decorations are manufactured, and it’s just not worth it to gamble on cheap products that can pose a fire risk to your home. You can still find a great deal online with free shipping and no taxes, but from do it from a reputable website like Amazon with solid reputation and no-questions-asked return policy.

And here’s the most important ingredients to a successful holiday display: have lots of fun with it! And with that let me wish you and your family a very merry Christmas season, and a joyful and prosperous New Year.

A few cups of turkey stock should be added to the bottom of the pan to keep the turkey nice and juicy.

You might decide to cover the turkey for cooking. If the traditional roasteding pan includes a lid, use it. You can also make a tent using aluminum foil, or buy a roasting bag. Paper shopping bags are not advisable, since some bags are recycled and might contain unwanted substances.

Preheat your oven to 325 degrees or higher, and place the traditionaling pan inside the oven. The turkey should be basted every 30 minutes, using the juices that collect in the pan.
