The majority of Americans take some type of dietary supplement to improve their health. Do you take supplements? After all, the American public spends billions and billions of dollars each year on a wide array of pills and powders. The main issue here, however, is that lot of these supplements are sold with downright deceptive advertising, and in extreme cases, can cause serious health issues. Thus, without further delay, here are common falsehoods the supplement companies don’t want you to know: 1. They don’t have side effects: Look, just because the supplement companies market their products as natural does NOT mean there are 100% safe. In fact, there are many “natural” substances that are lethal. Also, remember that a lot of supplements are super concentrated concoctions of different ingredients. Thus, at this level, the naturalness tends to fade. 2. Dietary supplements are backed by peer reviewed research: Very few supplements actually undergo the rigors of peer reviewed research. In fact, the majority of research you see in the advertisements are fly-by-night studies performed by the companies themselves. 3. They take your health as a top priority: There is a lot of money to be made selling supplements. And when there is so much money at stake, it is very easy for companies to lose sight of ethics. And the supplement industry is no exception here. 4. If it worked for him, it must work for me: Unfortunately, just because a supplement worked for someone else doesn’t mean it will work for you. You see, not only are our bodies very different, but the placebo effect can be the main cause of “feeling” something. The bottom line here is to stay away from all the advertising hype. Instead, stick to what has been proven by clinical trials as being effective. Anything less and you could be putting your health at risk!
